About The Position

The Respiratory Therapy Equipment Technician is responsible for cleaning, low level disinfecting, and preparing respiratory therapy equipment for clinical use. This role includes equipment delivery and retrieval, reprocessing services, maintaining storeroom at adequate inventory levels, calibrating ventilators, assembling equipment setups, and supporting respiratory therapists with equipment-related needs. Equipment Technician ensures inventory aligns with periodic automatic replenishment (PAR) levels, follows the first-in, first-out methodology, and documents equipment status in appropriate database to align with departmental and safety standards. Responsibilities

  • Cleans, disinfects, calibrates, and prepares respiratory therapy equipment?including ventilators and accessories?for safe redistribution, following manufacturer and hospital guidelines. Coordinates with Clinical Engineering for performance checks and preventive maintenance, documents equipment status in the RT database, and ensures proper storage and inventory rotation using first-in, first-out FIFO methods. Maintains INO ventilators and tanks, tracks usage, and submits required documentation to the RT department.
  • Delivers and retrieves respiratory therapy equipment across the facility, ensuring timely response to clinical requests and proper handling of devices. Maintains working knowledge of equipment and unit layouts, collects soiled items for reprocessing or repair, and coordinates delivery of cleaned accessories to Central Sterilization Reprocessing. Supports efficient equipment flow to meet patient care needs.
  • Monitors and maintains appropriate inventory levels of respiratory therapy equipment, disposable supplies, and specialty gases across department storerooms based on periodic automatic replenishment (PAR) levels. Submits orders when stock is low, manages rental equipment documentation, and coordinates with vendors to ensure timely delivery and billing accuracy. Supports operational readiness by recommending equipment purchases based on usage trends and patient needs.
  • Responds to units for assistance concerning non-functioning equipment and safety check requests that occur after hours. Correct identified issues and verify equipment's preventative maintenance has been completed.
