About The Position

As a valued member of the management team, The Respiratory Therapy Educator should demonstrate a culture of team work with a positive attitude, approachable personality and expert knowledge. Providing detailed information in a clear and precise manner to staff and gather feedback is crucial as we continue to grow as a Healthcare System. Having the ability to organize quality improvement activities with a Lean-style problem/resolution approach; staff development opportunities and mentoring new students/staff; assisting in the guidance of professional and clinical improvements; facilitating career ladder and clinical setting advancements; continuing education opportunities and product analysis; and other tasks that contribute to high-quality, safe, and effective patient care; such as supporting Doctors, Nurses and Clinical Professionals through direct interventions and learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • Bachelors Degree in Respiratory Care (or related field)
  • 3 or more years experience in critical respiratory care
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner(RCP) - State Division of Professional Registration
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Neonatal Life Support Course

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Respiratory Care , management, education)

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to provide respiratory care, service, and education in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Orients new employees in the Respiratory Therapy Services Department.
  • Provides needed continuing education, remediation and competency assessment for orientates, staff, students and contract personnel.
  • Provides educational opportunities for other KU Hospital employees and customers as directed.
  • Models excellent respiratory care with staff and when providing patient care.
  • Maintains quality of service and care by defining and monitoring clinical competency requirements of staff.
  • Ensures documentation of all staff educational, training, and competency assurance activities.
  • Offers and implements solutions to departmental challenges/problems.
  • Provides patient care as directed.
  • Serves as an effective communicator of the unit’s/team’s vision and goals.
  • Expresses ideas clearly and effectively (gaining agreement and/or understanding), by adjusting language, terminology and style to the characteristics and needs of the audience as well as the venue for the communication.
  • Manages his/her organizational responsibilities in a way that supports the achievement of unit/team goals.
  • Works effectively with others in the management team to accomplish organizational goals and to identify and resolve problems.
  • Skillfully administers, directs and allocates all organizational resources.
  • Demonstrates personal effectiveness in leading the unit/team towards its goals.
  • Models appropriate values and maintains and promotes social, ethical and organizational norms.
  • Uses appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to develop a unit/team-wide spirit and intra-team and inter-team cooperation.
  • Serves as a resource and technical expert to Respiratory Therapy staff, physicians, and other health care personnel.

  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
