About The Position

The co-op program is an educational and clinical work experience for high school students. The student will work with a preceptor, and is responsible and accountable for performing a wide range of patient care tasks. The performance of tasks allows the care team to provide quality care. The position will focus on providing patient care within a clinical scope of practice. Fulfills designated responsibilities for ongoing continuum of care (non-assessment). Identifies, observes, and documents the physical needs of the patient according to standards. Assists with patient transfer and transport as needed. Assists in problem solving, trouble shooting, and taking corrective measures in care and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Assists in clerical responsibilities as required for task completion. Suggests issues for improvement and offer solutions on issues. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. This is for the Respiratory Therapy Co-op position at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital in Wilkes Barre. A resume is required to move forward with application process. High school junior students must apply to this program their junior year to complete the co-op as a senior during the 2026-2027 academic school year. Co-op students must attend a mandatory orientation (date will be provided to students upon offer). Co-op hours will begin in September.
