This position at Massachusetts General Hospital involves acting as an active member of the patient care team, providing clinical patient care assessment, initiation, modification, and discontinuance of therapeutic respiratory care procedures to critically ill patients. The role requires analyzing and evaluating clinical patient data to determine appropriate therapy or interventions and making recommendations on patient care plans to the medical staff. This position requires direct patient care.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree Respiratory Therapy
  • Respiratory Therapist [Massachusetts] - Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care license
  • Ability to be a subject matter expert in the area of Respiratory Therapy and be able to communicate effectively with patients, team members, and other healthcare disciplines.
  • Ability to assess quickly and offer professional judgment to prepare appropriate care plan, and makes specific recommendations to physician for indicated therapy.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to walk distances and push medical equipment weighing less than 100 lbs.
  • Ability to stand immobile for long periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree Respiratory Therapy
  • NICU experience 1-2 years
  • NPS Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care Specialty (cert)

Responsibilities

  • Initiates and/or assists with appropriate respiratory tests and procedures, as ordered, to deliver appropriate care to patients, including moderate complexity point of care (POC) testing for Blood Gas Analysis.
  • Responds to respiratory emergencies, including high-risk deliveries, and transports patients as indicated.
  • Prepares appropriate care plan and makes specific recommendations to physician for indicated therapy.
  • Schedules patient treatments as necessary and provides consultation as an active member of the patient care team.
  • Manages the administration of all aspects of respiratory therapy according to respiratory care policies and procedures, including NICU-specific therapies.
  • Makes regular bedside rounds and administers Respiratory Care modalities to assigned patients.
  • Modifies treatment care plan according to clinical picture and response to therapy.
  • Participates in education of students, physicians, staff, patients, and families.
