About The Position

As a Respiratory Therapist at UPMC Cole, you’ll work with cutting-edge technology and a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care to patients with cardiopulmonary conditions. Whether you're a seasoned Sr. RRT or just starting your journey as a CRT, we’ll place you in the role that best matches your qualifications and experience. You’ll provide life-saving respiratory therapy services across a variety of patient populations and clinical settings—including the OR, ED, Cath Lab, and more.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of a Respiratory Therapy program accredited by CoARC (Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care).
  • If you don’t have an associate degree, you can still qualify with 5–7 years of experience or by holding an NBRC certification.
  • At least 2 years of respiratory care experience required.
  • Must include at least 1 year in a critical care setting.
  • You’ll need to complete one approved department project each year, starting within 3 months of hire.
  • Must be completed within 30 days of hire (must include both classroom and hands-on skills).
  • Must have a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in PA.
  • Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • If you earned your RRT after July 1, 2002, you must keep your NBRC certification current.
  • Must have a Maryland Respiratory Therapist license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Osteopathic Respiratory Care OR Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administer advanced therapies such as Nitric Oxide (NO) and Tracheal Gas Insufflation (TGI)
  • Perform diagnostic procedures including ABGs, pulmonary function tests, EEGs, EKGs, stress testing, and Holter monitoring
  • Monitor patient responses and adjust treatments to optimize outcomes
  • Assist in transporting ventilated patients and respond to emergency code situations
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for students and fellow staff
  • Take on leadership duties as needed, including charge responsibilities
