This position acts as an active member of the patient care team to provide clinical patient care assessment, initiation, modification, and discontinuance of therapeutic respiratory care procedures to critically ill patients. The role involves analyzing and evaluating clinical patient data to determine the appropriate therapy or interventions and making recommendations on patient care plans to the medical staff.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree Respiratory Therapy
  • Ability to be a subject matter expert in the area of Respiratory Therapy and be able to communicate effectively with patients, team members, and other healthcare disciplines
  • Ability to assess quickly and offer professional judgment to prepare appropriate care plan, and makes specific recommendations to physician for indicated therapy
  • Strong communication Skills
  • Ability to walk distances and push medical equipment weighing less than 100 pounds
  • May also be required to stand immobile for long periods of time

  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification]
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist [RRT] - The National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Neonatal Advanced Life Support [NALS] - American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
  • Respiratory Therapist [Massachusetts License] - Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner [State License]
  • 2-3 years of Respiratory Care experience

Responsibilities

  • Initiates and/or assists with appropriate respiratory tests and procedures, as ordered, to deliver appropriate care to patients
  • Responds to respiratory emergencies and transports mechanically ventilated patients when moved from units for tests and procedures
  • Prepares appropriate care plan, and makes specific recommendations to physician for indicated therapy. Schedules patient treatments as necessary and provides consultation as an active member of the patient care team
  • Manages the administration of all aspects of respiratory therapy according to respiratory care policies and procedures
  • Makes regular bedside rounds and administers Respiratory Care modalities to assigned patients. Modifies treatment care plan according to clinical picture and response to therapy
  • Participates in education of students, physicians, staff, and patients/families. Clinically supervises respiratory therapy students in the patient areas
