Position Highlights: Quality of Life: Where career opportunities and quality of life converge Advancement: Strong orientation program, generous tuition allowance and career development What you will do: The Respiratory Therapist participates in patient assessment which includes the pulmonary history, pulmonary pharmacology, complete chest examination, arterial/venous blood gas acquisition/analysis, knowledge of chest roentgenology, pulmonary function testing, patient motivation, and self-care education; elective and/or emergency endotracheal intubation and extubation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation; participation in hospital/respiratory related inservices, patient/family education programs/support groups, respiratory therapy student rotations, nursing education, updates, and community service education programs.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy
  • Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist by the New York State Dept. of Education
  • Registered by the NBRC
  • BLS required

Responsibilities

  • Gather data to be able to accurately assess a patient’s current health status
  • Assessment is made according to a patient’s special physical or age related needs
  • Observe, record and report symptoms, reactions and progress of patients
  • Administer and record prescribed medications, treatments, and diagnostic procedures (adult and neonatal mechanical ventilation, blood gas acquisition and analysis, monitoring and testing pulmonary function, hemodynamic monitoring, and setup of lines)
  • Responsible for airway management including performing endotracheal intubations and extubations, pulmonary hygiene, and tracheostomy care, and emergency life support procedures
  • Perform all aspects of Pulmonary Function Testing
  • Participates in setting standards for patients care, promotes their implementation and assists in monitoring these standards through the continuous quality improvement program
  • Maintains clinical knowledge, evaluates new techniques and equipment
  • Performs other duties as assigned
