A Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) helps patients with breathing problems, from premature babies to the elderly, by diagnosing, treating, and managing lung conditions like asthma, COPD, or cystic fibrosis , using diagnostic tests , oxygen therapy , mechanical ventilation , and airway clearance techniques , working with doctors to create treatment plans and educate patients on managing their respiratory health. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Performs Emergency room therapies and oxygen administration following proper policy and procedure. Performs or assists with endotracheal intubation as indicated in a safe manner Performs endotracheal extubation as indicated in a safe manner. Maintains clinical competency for mechanical ventilation in adult, pediatric and newborns. Able to perform arterial blood gas draws and analyze in a safe and effective manner from radial, brachial and femoral arteries as well as capillary samples.
