The Respiratory Therapist provides independent professional respiratory care procedures to patients in support of total medical care as directed by the medical staff and pursuant to objectives and policies of the hospital. At all times, works under medical direction where final and ultimate authority, judgment and clinical decision-making are the responsibility of a physician/nurse practitioner. An in-depth knowledge of cardiopulmonary pathophysiology and clinical applications of respiratory care principles is essential to allow the employee to assist the physician/NP in assessing the efficiency of therapy and devising an effective respiratory care plan. Therapist must be capable of independent judgement when confronted with acute, critical, or life-threatening patient care situations. Standard practice requires therapist to proceed alone in administering emergency, life-sustaining procedures until such time as judgment and decision-making responsibilities may be assumed by the physician/NP. Must hold current registration/certification with the Mississippi State Board of Licensure as RRT or CRT. Must have current certification in CPR (BLS) and ACLS Position: Full Time; Night Shift
