About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist (RT) position at Advocate Health involves providing respiratory therapy processes to support patient assessment and care. The role includes operating specialized ventilators, assisting physicians with procedures, providing medication treatments, and educating patients on self-care and disease management. The position requires effective communication, collaboration with other departments, and adherence to safety measures. The RT will also be responsible for teaching and precepting new teammates and must demonstrate knowledge of patient care appropriate to various age groups.

Requirements

  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by the state.
  • Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • Graduate from an accredited respiratory care program with a minimum of an associate degree.
  • No experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Uses respiratory therapy processes to support assessment of patients utilizing various skills such as pulmonary diagnostics and correlating blood gases.
  • Operates specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care venues.
  • Assists physicians with bedside or other procedures as applicable.
  • Provides medication treatments and therapies per physician order.
  • Cleans, maintains, and ensures proper functionality of equipment.
  • Educates and instructs patients in purpose, technique, self-care, and disease management.
  • Facilitates clinical problem solving and collaborates with other departments.
  • Demonstrates effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Promotes a culture of safety by recognizing and applying proper safety measures.
  • Teaches, educates, and precepts new teammates, orientees, and students.
