About The Position

Under the supervision of the Respiratory Therapy Director, the Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing cardiopulmonary care services in accordance with specific physician’s orders, department policies and procedures. The position requires maintaining knowledge of various methods of oxygen delivery, administering respiratory therapy treatments, setting up and monitoring ventilators, performing arterial punctures, and documenting patient data. The therapist must also demonstrate competency in patient assessment, pain management, and equipment operation while ensuring patient safety and quality care.

Requirements

  • Current State Respiratory Therapist Licensure.
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Respiratory Therapy.
  • Successful completion of Neonatal Resuscitation certification.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Three (3) or more years of previous experience in all aspects of cardiopulmonary services, preferred.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains knowledge of the various methods of oxygen delivery, including the necessary equipment.
  • Administers respiratory therapy treatments and understands the purpose and possible side effects of each.
  • Sets up and monitors invasive and non-invasive ventilators and performs critical care duties.
  • Assesses patient pain and makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
  • Performs arterial punctures for blood gas analysis and understands associated complications.
  • Follows departmental equipment sterilization procedures.
  • Documents all pertinent data on the patient’s medical record.
  • Maintains knowledge of departmental forms and their proper usage.
  • Performs EKGs and manages reports according to department procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of treatment modalities for patients of varying ages.
  • Follows medication rights to reduce potential errors.
  • Performs patient care in a safe environment.
  • Manages and operates respiratory therapy equipment safely.
  • Formulates and evaluates teaching plans for patients and their families.
  • Coordinates and directs patient care to meet needs and follow hospital policy.
  • Attends education inservice programs to maintain professional competency.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the department manager.
