About The Position

The position involves conducting physician prescribed Respiratory Care treatments and procedures, performing regular rounds to check patient oxygen supplies and equipment, and documenting necessary information. The role includes setting up and monitoring patients on both continuous and non-continuous ventilation, performing arterial puncture procedures, and being a member of the Code 3 team. Additional responsibilities include explaining treatment procedures to patients, maintaining Respiratory Care equipment, and providing clinical instruction for Respiratory Care students.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an AMA accredited Respiratory Therapist Program.
  • Registered with the State of Missouri and maintains a current license.
  • Registered or registry eligible by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Preferably two years experience as a registered/registry eligible therapist.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Basic knowledge of keyboard and computer programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the operation and troubleshooting of equipment used in Respiratory Care.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts physician prescribed Respiratory Care treatments and procedures.
  • Conducts regular rounds, checking patient oxygen supplies and equipment, documenting as necessary, and completing patient charges.
  • Reports patient and department information to the next shift.
  • Sets up and monitors patients on continuous and non-continuous ventilation.
  • Responsible for performing arterial puncture procedures, sample collection and analysis, Quality Control, Proficiency testing, problem solving skills.
  • Functions as a member of the Code 3 team.
  • Performs nasotracheal and tracheal suctioning.
  • May perform cardiac compressions.
  • Explains the purpose and procedures of treatments, tests, and equipment to the patient.
  • Records all pertinent information of therapy and patient response on Respiratory Care records and patient chart.
  • Processes Respiratory Care equipment, cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing and packaging as required.
  • Performs quality control procedures on Respiratory Care equipment.
  • Performs basic preventative maintenance and reports necessary repairs to BioMed on a timely basis.
  • Maintains department in a clean, safe, neat, and orderly condition.
  • Provides clinical instruction for the Respiratory Care students.
  • Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance and safety procedures.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Assists with deliveries and c-sections.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
