The position involves receiving physician's orders for therapy, verifying the mode, medications, and frequency. The therapist will initiate new therapy as ordered, ensuring all paperwork is completed for the patient's chart and the department's records. Responsibilities include documenting therapy on the Respiratory Care Treatment Schedule and Oxygen record, and preparing copies for the next day's therapy rounds. The therapist will also institute, monitor, and maintain all mechanical ventilation, Bipap, and High Flow Oxygen. Additionally, the role requires making oxygen rounds once per shift to check for proper delivery and function of oxygen apparatus, ensuring adequate equipment is on standby in the ICU and ER. Other duties include performing Pulmonary Function testing, cleaning and maintaining equipment and work areas daily, and completing individual assignments as assigned by the Director and/or Lead Therapist. The therapist will attend departmental and hospital-wide meetings and in-services, participate in Quality Assurance reviews, respond to Code Blue and Rapid Response Teams, perform CPR, assist in the orientation of new therapists, and keep abreast of new techniques and methods of therapy, assisting in the instruction of such to therapists. The role may also involve completing and/or assisting in the writing of Incident Reports with submission to the supervisor as needed, and performing other duties as assigned.
