About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist - Per Diem plays a critical role in delivering specialized respiratory care to patients across various healthcare settings on an as-needed basis. This position focuses on assessing, treating, and monitoring patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders to improve their respiratory function and overall health outcomes. The therapist collaborates closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans. Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as the per diem nature of the role requires the ability to respond to fluctuating patient volumes and diverse clinical environments. Ultimately, this role ensures that patients receive timely, effective respiratory therapy interventions that support their recovery and quality of life.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • State licensure or certification to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the United States.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of respiratory therapy techniques, equipment, and patient care protocols.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to variable schedules in a per diem capacity.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in acute care, critical care, or emergency department settings.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and documentation standards.
  • Additional certifications such as Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Strong communication and patient education skills to effectively support diverse patient populations.
  • Previous per diem or flexible scheduling experience in a healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments and develop appropriate treatment plans based on patient needs and physician orders.
  • Administer respiratory therapies including oxygen delivery, aerosolized medications, chest physiotherapy, and mechanical ventilation management.
  • Monitor patient responses to therapy and adjust treatments accordingly to optimize respiratory function and comfort.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and provide education to patients and their families regarding respiratory health and equipment use.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of treatments, patient progress, and equipment maintenance in compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
