As a Respiratory Therapist at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, you will apply scientific knowledge and therapy to practical clinical problems of respiratory care. You will be a team member in the delivery of respiratory services, performing a wide range of procedures related to the care of patients with general and specialized respiratory-related needs across various age groups. Your responsibilities will include evaluating respiratory care needs, making recommendations, assessing treatment effectiveness, and documenting according to department and legal standards. You will also perform advanced evaluation, management, and therapeutic procedures for patients requiring respiratory assistance, and facilitate smooth transitions for patients to appropriate referral services. Additionally, you will provide education to patients and families regarding respiratory issues and instruct other staff and students on respiratory care services.

  • Applies scientific knowledge and therapy to practical clinical problems of respiratory care.
  • Performs evaluation to determine respiratory care needs and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Assesses effectiveness of treatment and documents according to department and legal standards.
  • Performs point of care testing as required.
  • Completes and documents required education and competencies within designated timeframe.
  • Maintains competency in areas of accountability.
  • Facilitates a smooth transition for the patient to appropriate referral services.
  • Provides education to patients and families regarding respiratory issues.
  • Instructs and trains other respiratory care staff, nursing, and other medical personnel.
  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • State of Michigan Respiratory Therapist License upon hire.
  • CRT-Respiratory Therapist Registry from the National Board for Respiratory Care upon hire.
  • CRT-Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 90 days.
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 90 days.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • 2 years of relevant experience in pulmonary rehabilitation, respiratory care, sleep medicine, or equivalent clinical education.
