Requirements

  • Current Respiratory Therapy license.
  • Graduate of accredited Respiratory Care program.
  • 2 years recent experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in Iowa.
  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.
  • Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
  • Multicultural sensitivity.
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Customer/patient focused.
  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or interest in cardiac/pulmonary rehab.
  • Knowledge of Home Care and/or oxygen delivery systems commonly used in the home.
  • Comfortable and skilled with providing education to individuals and small groups.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes scientific principles to develop exercise prescriptions.
  • Monitors client’s response to activity and adjusts treatment plan accordingly.
  • Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
  • Delivers high quality care while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills specific to the rehabilitation specialty in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
  • Utilizes holistic approach (considering psychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the individuals served.
  • Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare team members within their scope of practice and holds them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.
  • Utilizes critical thinking in developing appropriate interventions while maintaining responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
  • Will work at Iowa Lutheran Hospital and at West Des Moines- Lakeview.
