The Respiratory Therapy Manager is responsible for the supervision of Respiratory Therapy activities, as related to patient care, education, safety, program growth, and the coordination of these activities with other departments. The Respiratory Therapy Manager is directly responsible for the clinical supervision of the Respiratory Therapy staff. Assumes all duties and responsibilities of a staff respiratory therapist, when needed, including the following: Read and follow physician orders, provide patient assessment, make recommendation for therapy and serve as a resource for physicians, nurses and other members of the health care team regarding the technical and therapeutic aspects of respiratory therapy. Implements infection control standards as required. Records results of therapy accurately and timely, for both patient care and appropriate charges. Delivers routine procedures such as humidity and aerosol therapy, medical gas administration, aerosolized drugs, percussion and postural drainage, incentive spirometry, bedside spirometric studies, PFTs, EKG's and ABG's. Sets up and applies mechanical ventilation. Monitors patients through the use of spirometers, gauges, oximeters, physical assessment and other diagnostic techniques. Performs peak flows, vital capacity, negative inspiratory force or other special information gathering procedures to document patients' ability to be removed from ventilatory support. Ensures appropriateness of, performs and monitors patient response to weaning procedures. Responds to emergency resuscitation needs.
