About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist Lead position at UnityPoint Health involves a combination of clinical and administrative responsibilities. The role requires the therapist to perform clinical duties 80% of the time, while the remaining 20% is dedicated to administrative tasks that support the daily operations of the Respiratory Therapy department. The therapist will be responsible for ensuring appropriate staff assignments, assisting in the hiring process, monitoring and assessing the work of others, providing education and instruction, and assisting in annual competency completion. The position also involves collaboration with other departments on assigned committees. The role includes openings on 2nd and 3rd shifts, with 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts available, and requires weekend and holiday rotations. Shift differentials apply for hours worked during specific times.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a CoARC approved Respiratory Care program.
  • At least 1 year of clinical experience in respiratory care.
  • Iowa Respiratory Care Licensure or Respiratory Care & Polysomnography Practitioner certification.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapy Tech with NBRC certification.
  • CPR certification upon hire.
  • ACLS/NRP certification within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the clinical expert in respiratory care and associated information/reporting systems.
  • Provide respiratory care modalities, therapies, and diagnostic testing, including oxygen therapies and medication delivery.
  • Complete documentation promptly to ensure an accurate legal record of services provided.
  • Educate patients and their families about respiratory care.
  • Serve in the charge therapist role as needed.
  • Act as a clinical preceptor to students.
  • Handle equipment and therapies associated with neonatal care.
  • Accept assignments at the Moline and Bettendorf Campuses.
  • Perform intubation as needed, within the scope of practice.
  • Process and provide necessary equipment for assigned duties, including diagnostic and ventilator support for patients.
  • Ensure all respiratory equipment is in good working condition and monitor equipment rental usage.
