Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current full-time student in an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy that leads to a degree or certificate in Respiratory Care.
• RT Intern must maintain full-time status in a Respiratory Therapy program for continued employment.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

Responsibilities

• Assists in providing respiratory care to patients with healthcare issues affecting the cardiopulmonary system on adult inpatient care areas excluding critical care.
• Conducts a program of treatment, management, diagnostic evaluation and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system in a safe and therapeutically effective manner.
• Independently performs therapeutic interventions on the adult inpatient floors, excluding ventilators, emergency room, critical care areas, and pediatrics.
• Determines the impact of interventions on the patient’s condition and recognizes the patient's progress toward meeting desired outcomes.
• Documents care in accordance with Policies and Procedures.
• Maintains awareness of environmental conditions and initiates corrective intervention as indicated.
• Maintains a professional relationship with the medical staff.
