The Respiratory Therapist I (entry level practitioner) performs all necessary routine respiratory care procedures associated with acute or critically ill neonatal, pediatric, or adult patient populations and is able to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team. He/she initiates and maintains appropriate therapy, including life support technique and equipment. Provides, preventable, supportive, and corrective interventions related to the cardio-pulmonary system in assigned patient care areas in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and all applicable regulations and standards. Applies the knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate interactions with staff, patients, and families of all ages. Minimum competency in all applicable clinical skills must be demonstrated and maintained. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Adheres to AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.

  • Implement clinical strategies that incorporate respiratory therapy assessment-driven protocols that are patient-centric, value driven, and evidence-based best practices focused on disease management.
  • Provides effective patient education on all therapy modalities as needed to the patient and/or the patients family to ensure a complete understanding of the benefits of care provided.
  • Reviews and reinforces with patient/family education of basic procedures and therapies to ensure understanding and proper/safe techniques and methods.
  • Implements AIDET and department specific customer service expectations to provide optimal patient care.
  • Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the methods and techniques of infection control, safe ergonomically correct body mechanics and all applicable regulations, standards, and licensing requirements.
  • Demonstrates basic respiratory care knowledge and skill and emergent intervention skills by applying and utilizing appropriate judgment and critical thinking for problem resolution considering all aspects of the whole.
  • Provides assessment and intervention for cardio-pulmonary system function to patients by applying age appropriate methods in accordance with established policies and procedures and safety and quality standards.
  • Graduate from an AMA approved program by the National Board of Respiratory Care in Respiratory Therapy is required.
  • AAS or AS is required.
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required.
  • BLS, ACLS certifications required.
  • Graduate RRT up to two years of acute care experience required.
  • Current Florida State License as an RRT/Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the NBRC.
