The Registered Respiratory Therapist position at Boston Children's Hospital is a vital role responsible for administering respiratory care and assisted ventilation to infants and children suffering from both acute and chronic disease states across various hospital settings. This includes critical care, inpatient, outpatient, and emergency environments. The therapist will follow prescribed treatment protocols, apply and monitor mechanical ventilation, and provide comprehensive patient care in their assigned clinical area, ensuring that all associated duties are completed effectively. In addition to direct patient care, the therapist will be expected to communicate effectively with the care team, patients, their family members, and co-workers to ensure a collaborative approach to treatment. Responsibilities

  • Administer respiratory care and assisted ventilation to infants and children with acute and chronic disease states in all areas of the hospital.
  • Apply and monitor mechanical ventilation for patients.
  • Provide respiratory therapy in critical care, inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings.
  • Deliver patient care in assigned clinical areas and complete associated duties.
  • Communicate effectively with care team members, patients, their families, and co-workers.
  • Participate in professional development and opportunities for advancement within the departmental career ladder.

Requirements

  • An Associate of Science Degree in Respiratory Therapy is required; graduates of a BS Degree Respiratory Therapy program are preferred.
  • One plus years of recent Respiratory Therapist experience in a Tertiary Hospital preferred, but recent graduates of an AS or BS Degree Respiratory Therapy program are also encouraged to apply.
  • Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • Licensed by the State of MA.
  • NICU and PICU experience preferred.
  • Certifications such as NPS, PALS, NRP, and ACLS are preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a Tertiary Hospital setting.
  • Certifications in NPS, PALS, NRP, and ACLS.
