Performs all procedures under the supervision of a Respiratory Therapist or Respiratory Therapy Technician. Job duties will be assigned based on student's clinical progression and competency validation.

Responsibilities

• Performs respiratory therapy procedures in accordance with the physician’s order, departmental policy, and the Respiratory Care Guidelines (RT Consult). May not take verbal orders or modify orders.
• Communicates well with supervisors, therapists and technicians. Provides a complete and accurate report.
• May perform blood gasses from all sites. Analyzes and reports results accurately.
• Accurately and completely documents and charges for respiratory care procedures and provides patient and family education as appropriate.
• Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives. Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfection and sterilization of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status.
