About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist performs designated Respiratory Care and Pulmonary diagnostic procedures under the supervision of a Respiratory Care Coordinator or designee. This role is in accordance with protocols and procedures established by the department and hospital, focusing on the treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation, and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities associated with the cardiopulmonary system. The Respiratory Care services include, but are not limited to, therapeutic and diagnostic procedures performed with the use of medical gases and administration apparatus, environmental control systems, humidification, and aerosols. Responsibilities also include the administration of drugs and medications to the cardiopulmonary system, ventilatory support including maintenance and management of life support systems, bronchopulmonary drainage and breathing exercises, pulmonary rehabilitation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and maintenance of natural and artificial airways. These procedures are performed in both critical care and non-critical care areas, on patients of all ages, in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Requirements

  • Completion of 2 Year Respiratory Care Program.
  • Achieved CRT-RE, CRT-MRE or RRT status.
  • Completion of NBRC requirements for RRT.
  • Licensed as RRT in the State of Florida.
  • Active credential for RRT.
  • Initial Orientation and completion of progressive orientation period or 1-year progressive hospital experience.
  • CRT must have 3-year progressive hospital experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform designated Respiratory Care and Pulmonary diagnostic procedures under supervision.
  • Administer therapeutic and diagnostic procedures using medical gases and apparatus.
  • Manage environmental control systems, humidification, and aerosols.
  • Administer drugs and medications to the cardiopulmonary system.
  • Provide ventilatory support and manage life support systems.
  • Conduct bronchopulmonary drainage and breathing exercises.
  • Facilitate pulmonary rehabilitation and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Maintain natural and artificial airways.
