About The Position

This position provides clinical assistance to physicians in the treatment of cardiopulmonary disease. Performs physical assessment, arteriotomy, basic bedside pulmonary function testing and blood gas analysis, nasal and endotracheal suctioning, and basic life support maneuvers. Administers oxygen via various modalities and aerosolized pharmaceuticals. Performs chest physical therapy. Decontaminates various instrumentation. Initiates, monitors therapeutic procedures in accordance with a physician’s written order. Serves as an information source to all medical practitioners as related to technical applications.

Requirements

  • Position requires individuals to be a Licensed by the state of New York.
  • One (1) to two (2) years experience in a progressive institution and department is preferable.
  • Registry or certification eligible individual qualifies for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform respiratory assessments including auscultation, respiratory rate, pulse oximetry, bedside spirometry, and recognition of changes in patient condition
  • Interpret routine blood work, vital signs, and basic arterial blood gas values (PO ₂ , PCO ₂ , pH)
  • Perform arterial punctures, chest physiotherapy, and naso/endotracheal suctioning with lavage as indicated
  • Initiate, monitor, and document respiratory therapies per physician orders and departmental policies
  • Maintain, monitor, and adjust mechanical ventilators; calculate tidal/minute ventilation, lung compliance, and A–a gradient
  • Perform ventilator management and endotracheal intubation when credentialed; perform Basic Life Support
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cardiopulmonary medications, indications, and interactions
  • Properly clean and decontaminate respiratory equipment per guidelines
  • Utilize the medical record to obtain and document patient condition and care provided
  • Provide age‑appropriate care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, modifying approaches based on developmental and psychosocial needs; assess for abuse, neglect, and additional safety requirements
  • Accurately complete documentation and charge capture in accordance with departmental standards
  • Communicate policy and procedure updates and support enforcement of clinical standards
  • Maintain current NYS licensure, required immunizations, annual health assessments, and mandatory continuing education
