As a Respiratory Support Technician, you will support the Respiratory Therapy department in many clinical activities, under the direction of a licensed Respiratory Therapist. You will perform targeted rounding in active patient areas to recover assets for processing and redistribution. This allows for ample opportunities to experience a wide range of patient populations and different patient care activities performed by Respiratory Therapists. This role offers ample opportunities for growth within Cleveland Clinic, including a scholarship opportunity and the chance to become certified as a Respiratory Therapist. A caregiver in this position works rotating Saturday and Sunday days from 7:00AM – 3:00PM.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent with a strong background in Math and Science
  • Completion of an Accredited Respiratory Program within five years of hire in order to continue employment
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required within new hire period
  • Must be able to walk long distances while pushing a cart of equipment/supplies.
  • Must be able to lift equipment in excess of 35 lbs.
  • Push/pull loaded carts of equipment in excess of 100 lbs.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required by department.
  • You will be required to comply with this program, which will include obtaining an influenza vaccination on an annual basis or obtaining an approved exemption.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, deliver, evaluate and inspect specified medical devices (such as infusion pumps, syringe pumps, feeding pumps, PCA pumps, DVT pumps, specialty beds, specialty carts and procedural trays).
  • Document work activity in an electronic database.
  • Deliver and recover specialty carts and procedural trays.
  • Follow up and assist with administrative duties.
  • Stock and take inventory of Respiratory Therapy equipment and supplies.
  • Operate laboratory equipment within scope of role.
  • Perform EKGs.
  • Record vital signs including pulse oximetry spot checks.
  • Stock and take inventory of inhaled medications.
  • Set up and download overnight pulse oximetry trend studies.
  • Assist Respiratory Therapists with relaying new or urgent orders.
