About The Position

Saint Joseph Health System is seeking a Respiratory Student Assistant for a part-time, rotating shift position. This role is designed to provide inhalation therapy to patients, focusing on stabilizing, preventing, or remedying respiratory problems in accordance with established procedures. Key responsibilities include setting up and operating various oxygen and other therapeutic gas and mist inhalation equipment to administer prescribed medicinal gases and aerosolized drugs. The assistant will also be responsible for regularly checking equipment functionality and accurately recording therapy data in patient charts. Saint Joseph Health System is a large, faith-based health care system operating across 27 states, with 101 hospitals and 126 continuing care locations. The system includes a 254-bed acute-care hospital at the Mishawaka Medical Center and a 58-bed acute-care hospital at the Plymouth Medical Center, supported by over 85 providers in the Saint Joseph Physician Network. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or graduate of an AMA accredited program.
  • Current student or temporary permit from the State of Indiana.
  • CPR certification.
  • Work requires the analytical ability to resolve complex problems requiring the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in-depth, experienced-based knowledge.
  • Work requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. This may include explaining clinical, technical and diagnostic procedures to patients and their families, comforting patients and their families, enforcing policies and regulations in difficult situations, or performing other duties requiring a comparable level of communication skill.

Responsibilities

  • Provides inhalation therapy designed to stabilize, prevent or remedy patient respiratory problems according to established procedures.
  • Arranges and operates a variety of oxygen and other therapeutic gas and mist inhalation equipment to administer prescribed doses of medicinal gases and aerosolized drugs to patients.
  • Checks equipment regularly for proper functioning and records data obtained during therapy in patient charts.
