The Respiratory Care Educator will function in coordinating and facilitating the education and Quality Improvement (QI) programs for the various Respiratory Service lines throughout the network. Additionally, will assist the Director in the ongoing revision and implementation of departmental policies and procedures, protocol development, protocol implementation, competency assessments and orientation to new personnel. The Respiratory Care Educator serves as a resource, educates, and instructs Respiratory Therapists and other health care personnel on therapy modalities and clinical practice. The Respiratory Educator has oversight and provides direction for the Renown internal Respiratory Therapist Training Program. They also coordinate the student rotation for all participating Respiratory Care College programs in addition to overseeing rotations for various clinicians not aligned with a Respiratory Care school (e.g. REMSA, UNR, Nursing). This position may provide respiratory care at a secondary care site consistent with the mission and obligations of Renown Health and the department of Respiratory Care. This position has responsibility far exceeding that of all other non-leadership respiratory therapy positions. They act as a role model, resource and coach to the respiratory care staff, physicians and ancillary departments. This position is expected to provide staff with the tools to effectively integrate the respiratory care of the patient with other care providers to achieve desired results. They are responsible for documentation of training for employee files. In addition, they are responsible for keeping abreast of technological advances in applicable areas and are well versed in appropriate clinical applications. The Respiratory Educator is accountable for ensuring that staff understand how to perform in the Respiratory care assessment, planning, implementation of care, and evaluation of Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric patients and families. They ensure that staff can demonstrate the ability to work with patient's physical, motor/sensory adaptation, cognitive and psychosocial needs specific to the population being served, and meet standards of quality as measured by the Unit/Department age specific competencies. The Respiratory Educator trains and develops the following positions: Respiratory Care Specialist, Clinical Respiratory Therapist, and Respiratory Therapist. The position requires advanced leadership skills. These leadership skills include role modeling, coaching and monitoring to develop the nursing staff. The incumbent also has consultation skills to collaborate with nursing management, other departments and professionals within the hospital as well as in the community. Evidence-based practice, along with critical thinking skills are required to provide optimally safe patient care when interacting with internal and external contacts and exercising judgment and making decisions This position does provide direct patient care.
