About The Position

To serve within the role of Clinical Expert to drive and support the practice of Respiratory Care within the hospital.

Requirements

  • Respiratory Care Practitioner license issued by the state of employment
  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Typically requires 3-5 years of experience in teaching and respiratory therapy for patient population served, including 3-5 years supervisory or lead experience.
  • Proficient in curriculum development, instruction, and team member evaluation.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word) or similar products and reporting tools such as Crystal reports.
  • Respiratory Therapist certification (CRT) issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)/American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Specialist (NPS) issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) certification issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) unless department leader has determined it is not required

Responsibilities

  • Develops, plans, coordinates and facilitates all respiratory and inter-disciplinary educational activities in order to provide the highest quality care trained professional and competent team member in the most cost effective manner.
  • Coordinates student, team member, clinical activities, and patient/family education by providing direction and guidance to students and team members, enhancing the educational experience.
  • Develops and implements a respiratory therapy continuing education program which includes workshops, classes, and computer-based training (CBT) to ensure the minimum competency of all team members.
  • Coordinates annual clinical competencies to cover all areas of care provided and retains documented evidence of training.
  • Collects aggregate data on competence patterns and trends to identify and respond to staff learning needs, to improve skills and competencies through continuing education.
  • Acts as a resource to team members, which includes training/orienting, providing day-to-day work direction, and providing feedback on performance.
  • Plays an active role in collecting and analyzing quality, safety, and performance improvement data.
  • Coordinate and facilitate regulatory and/or mandatory professional requirements.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of employee educational progress and competencies.
  • Provides input for team member evaluation process.
  • Partners with department leadership and vendors to discuss, review, evaluate, and implement new products and opportunities.
  • Participates, initiates, and assists in research projects and consultation with department leadership.
  • Coordinates and/or conducts, revises, and implements orientation programs.
  • Serves as liaison with other educational institutions involving respiratory and nursing students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
