Job Summary This position primarily provides professional education services for Respiratory Care Practitioners and other health care providers as appropriate. Recognized as a clinical expert in all areas of Respiratory Care for the patient population they are responsible for. Works independently in all critical care settings and has successfully completed formal in-house training courses for performance of advanced procedures. This job is responsible for assisting program development, performance management, knowledge management, and practice management within their respective department and collaboratively with other departments and team members. Works with the team to develop policies, procedures, and guidelines or protocols. Provides orientation, clinical updates and in services to all employees. Works with other departments and outside groups as requested. Works collaboratively with management team, EpiCenter representatives, and auditor to provide educational support for department education needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree - Respiratory Therapy, Education, or other related field and a g raduate of a school for Respiratory Therapy approved by the American Medical Association or a successor accrediting authority.
  • 3 years experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist,with 1 year at Prisma Health (working in acute care - Adult Care, Children's Hospital).
  • At least 1 year experience as an educator or 1 year as a lead/preceptor.
  • Computer skills and a variety of educational modalities such as web based studies, distance learning required.
  • BLS , RRT, AARC Membership Required.
  • Certification required may include any or all of the following depending on the unit: ACLS,NRP,FCCS,CAM Class or PALS
  • Associates degree in respiratory and 5 years of experience in critical care and 2 years as an educator or 2 years as a lead/preceptor.

Responsibilities

  • Works with department leaders to coordinate planning of educational activities to include coordination and implementation of education and orientation schedules. 20%
  • Provides in services /education to improve the delivery of patient care which includes facilitating quality and patient safety initiatives, participating on committees, establishing standards of care and documentation standards and provides direct patient care as directed by department leadership. 15%
  • Trains team members in clinical setting and communicates effectively with physicians, nursing, and other clinical teams. 10%
  • Responsible for coordination of department orientation and annual skills fair. 15%
  • Responsibility for LLR education submission and follow up and maintains records for in service participation licensing, Maintains records and reports required for accreditation. 10%
  • Routinely rounds on team members to collect specific feedback on technology, medical equipment, workflow, and other related topics affecting Respiratory Care. 10%
  • Acts as a resource and leader in the advancement of evidence based clinical practice. 10%
  • Employs principles of adult learning, preceptorship, and curriculum building skills to assure sufficient opportunity for team members to complete required and elective educational offerings. 10%
