Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree related to Respiratory Therapy/Health care/Healthcare Admin/Business Admin (preferred).
  • Current Respiratory Care License in the state of practice (required).
  • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentialed (required).
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) (preferred).
  • BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (required).
  • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association or Red Cross (required).
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association (required).
  • Valid driver's license (required for Home Care/DME).
  • Two years of experience as a Respiratory Care Professional (required).

Nice To Haves

  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AAP/AWHONN (preferred).
  • Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) (preferred).
  • Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) (preferred).
  • ACCS (Adult Critical Care Specialist) - NBRC (preferred).
  • EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care through patient assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation.
  • Perform all respiratory care procedures including oxygen and aerosolized medication delivery, ventilator care, bronchial hygiene therapy, and diagnostic services.
  • Monitor the patient's response to therapies and make recommendations to change or modify based on assessment.
  • Serve as the shift 'Charge Therapist' ensuring adequate staffing and coverage.
  • Assist physicians in procedures such as bronchoscopy and tracheotomy intubation.
  • Conduct CPR and airway management techniques in accordance with AHA ACLS protocol.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures to maintain patient airway and document procedures.
  • Select, assemble, monitor, and evaluate mechanical ventilators.
  • Perform pulmonary function tests (PFT).
  • Serve as a preceptor to new team members and/or students.
  • Assess patient's physical status and modify treatment procedures based on patient response.
  • Determine appropriateness of prescribed therapy and recommend methods to achieve therapeutic goals.
  • Set up and maintain different modes of oxygen therapy.
  • Administer IPPB or Aerosol Therapy and document patient responses.
  • Instruct patients and families in various respiratory therapies.
  • Procure sputum for culture and sensitivity.
  • Evaluate normal and pathologic blood and urine laboratory value ranges.
  • Perform arterial punctures and analysis, and understand ABG interpretation.
  • Respond to cardio-pulmonary resuscitations and participate as indicated.
