About The Position

Provides cardiopulmonary function testing and non-critical respiratory care to patients from newborn to 21 years of age consistent with accepted standards. Effectively and efficiently functions as a member of a multidisciplinary team that assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care services. Proactively supports the delivery of safe and clinically effective patient care while providing exemplary customer service at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience in cardiopulmonary function testing
  • Associate's degree from accredited respiratory therapy program
  • Registered Pulmonary Function Technician (RPFT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Respiratory Care Professional current Georgia license
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in pediatric cardiopulmonary function testing preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides cardiopulmonary function testing for patients from newborn to 21 years of age integrating emotional, psychosocial, educational, and growth and developmental needs of the patient and family.
  • Independently performs procedures per national and departmental standards, including spirometry, plethysmography, diffusing capacity (DLCO), simple and complex pulmonary stress test, metabolic testing, aerosolized pentamidine therapy, methacholine challenge, and nitrogen washout and other advanced Pulmonary Diagnostic procedures as ordered.
  • Monitors and appropriately addresses the learning needs as well as comprehension, understanding, and compliance of the patient and family with regard to treatment and testing.
  • Provides non-critical respiratory care, including patient assessment, aerosol therapy, patient education, equipment management, and airway assessment and management.
  • May serve as a departmental team leader with responsibilities including overseeing the day-to-day operations of the designated clinical area, addressing clinical, technical, and administrative needs such as facilitating implementation of new equipment, changes in procedures, processes, and policies, and maintaining area’s supplies, logs, and schedules under the guidance of a Pulmonary Diagnostics supervisor, manager, or director.
  • Participates in care planning and implementation and suggests alternatives which lead to desired clinical outcomes.
