Respiratory Care Practitioner Sharp Grossmont Hospital Night Shift Full Time
About The Position
Plans and administers assigned respiratory care functions and duties. This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with SEIU-UHW. As part of the terms of employment, employees in this role are required to join the union within 31 days of hire and remain a member (e.g. dues paying, fee paying, religious exception contributor) for the duration of the collective bargaining agreement. This position was originally posted to ratified SEIU members from 10/03/25 - 10/11/25. The position is now available to be filled by internal candidates that are not members of the ratified Bargaining Unit or External candidates to Sharp. Requirements
- Graduate of a CoARC accredited respiratory therapy program
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) - The National Board of Respiratory Care
- California Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP) - Respiratory Care Board of CA
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association
- AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA PALS Healthcare) - American Heart Association
Nice To Haves
- Associate's Degree Related field
- One (1) year Respiratory Care experience
- ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
Responsibilities
- Communicates patient status, observed change and responses to appropriate member of the healthcare team.
- Consistently updates IPOC/IPER once per shift.
- Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for and interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.
- Attends patient care rounds.
- Proficient in computer systems for data entry charges/credits.
- Maintains patient records as per department guidelines.
- Enters patient charges/credits as directed with specified time frame.
- Point of care documentation.
- Adheres to aseptic technique and universal precautions.
- Considers patient safety, age, cultural; psychosocial/physical needs of patients and families when providing care.
- Provides explanation to patient and family prior to administering care and answers questions.
- Perform and adheres to department established patient care assessment and / or patient driven protocol.
- Identifies inappropriate care and follows through with appropriate recommendations.
- Participates in orientation of new staff / students.
- Completes delegated duties within timeframes or reports to the appropriate healthcare team member when unable to complete assignment.
- Accepts additional assignments willingly.
- Demonstrates ability to adapt to changing work loads with adherence to all department rules and guidelines of care. (Answering pages timely)
- Demonstrates ability to organize, prioritize and complete assignment in timely manner including taking breaks / lunch.
