About The Position

Under the direction of the specified shift Respiratory Care Supervisor, Administrative and Medical Director, the Respiratory Care Student (RCS) is responsible for the assessment, treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation, and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the pulmonary system. This position provides Respiratory Care to non-critical patients in the hospital. Training and services are appropriate to patients of all age groups. The RCS applies clinical respiratory judgment to implement a clinical respiratory program and maintains standards for professional respiratory practice in the clinical setting, communicating necessary information and making needed recommendations to physicians and nurses as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Enrolled for credit in the clinical portion of an approved Respiratory Therapy Program
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Student currently enrolled in an approved CoARC Respiratory Therapy program pursuing a Respiratory Therapy Degree
  • Obtain the Registry Board Exam by the NBRC and Texas License within 90 days after date of Graduation from the Respiratory Care Program approved by CoARC in order to retain employment as Respiratory Care Therapist
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of routine procedures with critical thinking skills for both adults, pediatric, and neonatal patients
  • Possess effective oral and written communication skills
  • Possess effective interpersonal relationship skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions
