The K-6 Elementary Teacher at Savanna School District is responsible for meeting the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. This role involves engaging and supporting all students in their learning by connecting their prior knowledge and life experiences with learning goals. The teacher will utilize a variety of instructional strategies and resources to cater to the diverse needs of students, facilitating learning experiences that promote autonomy, interaction, and choice. The teacher will also engage students in problem-solving and critical thinking activities that make subject matter meaningful, while promoting self-directed and reflective learning for all students. In addition, the teacher is expected to create and maintain an effective environment for student learning. This includes establishing a physical environment that engages all students, promoting fairness and respect, and maintaining standards for student behavior. The teacher will plan and implement classroom procedures and routines that support student learning and use instructional time effectively. The role also requires a strong understanding and organization of subject matter for student learning. The teacher must demonstrate knowledge of subject matter content and student development, organize curriculum to support understanding, and interrelate ideas across subject areas. Instructional strategies must be appropriate to the subject matter, utilizing materials and technologies to make content accessible to students. Planning instruction and designing learning experiences for all students is another key responsibility. The teacher will draw on students' backgrounds and interests, establish learning goals, and develop instructional activities and materials. They will design both short-term and long-term plans to foster student learning and modify instructional plans as needed. Assessment of student learning is crucial, with the teacher establishing and communicating learning goals, collecting and using multiple sources of information to assess learning, and guiding students in assessing their own progress. Communication with students, families, and other audiences about student progress is also essential. Finally, the teacher is expected to develop as a professional educator by reflecting on their practice, establishing professional goals, and pursuing opportunities for growth. Collaboration with communities, families, and colleagues to improve professional practice is encouraged, along with balancing professional responsibilities and maintaining motivation.
