About The Position

The Resource Specialist provides support to District Operations to ensure all programs offered by TFS are administered within the District.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Valid Texas CDL Class A or ability to obtain one within 180 days of date of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate with a 2-year natural resources related technical degree.
  • Similar position with company or agency.
  • Ability to utilize GIS/GPS programs.
  • FFT-1 certification.

Responsibilities

  • Supports District Forester with delivery of Resource Development and Resource Protection programs.
  • Tasks may include: preparation of tract and stand maps, collecting property and stand data, interact directly with clientele, drafting of management plans, capacity building, conservation education, fire prevention and special projects.
  • Serve as a wildland firefighter and/or emergency responder on a statewide basis.
  • Duties will include operation of heavy firefighting equipment, use of hand firefighting tools and perform ground reconnaissance on wildfires.
  • Manage and account for assigned credit cards, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Maintain vehicles and equipment in good working order and properly serviced.
  • Meet and annually maintain a physical fitness standard which includes successfully completing a two-mile walk in 30 minutes or less with a 25-pound pack.
  • Obtain required NWCG training and Red Card Certification.
  • Respond to dispatcher within 30 minutes of receiving an emergency call, notification, or alert.
  • Operate heavy equipment with related exposure to equipment vibrations and noise.
  • Work in harsh environmental conditions such as wind, sunlight, rain and temperature extremes.
  • Walk long distances, stand for extended periods, twist, bend, reach, kneel, and lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Drive a motor vehicle for long distances.
  • Operate computers with monitors for extended periods of time.
  • Work long hours with minimal rest in primitive conditions.
  • Handle emotionally stressful situations for extended periods.
  • Become eligible for additional out-of-state duty in accordance with wildland Fire Qualification System Guide (PMS 310-1) by meeting applicable fitness levels.
  • Other duties as assigned.
