About The Position

The Resource/Inclusion Teacher plays a crucial role in providing special education students with tailored learning activities and experiences aimed at fostering their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. This position involves developing or modifying curricula and preparing lessons and instructional materials that cater to the varying ability levels of students. The teacher may work in a self-contained classroom, as part of a team, or in an itinerant capacity, depending on the assignment. A key responsibility of the Resource/Inclusion Teacher is to collaborate with students, parents, and other staff members to develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) through the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process. The teacher is expected to implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs for assigned students, ensuring that all preparations are documented as required. This includes planning and utilizing appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the diverse learning styles and needs of the students. In addition to instructional duties, the teacher is responsible for conducting ongoing assessments of student achievement through both formal and informal testing. They must also provide or supervise personal care, medical care, and feeding of students as outlined in their IEPs. The Resource/Inclusion Teacher is expected to create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and supportive of the physical, social, and emotional development of students. This includes managing student behavior, administering discipline, and intervening in crisis situations as necessary. Furthermore, the teacher must maintain open communication with parents, students, and colleagues, ensuring a professional relationship with all stakeholders involved in the educational process.
