About The Position

The Resource Development Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the mission of the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center by developing resources and coordinating fundraising efforts. This position involves administrative support for fundraising activities, managing donor relationships, and enhancing community partnerships to ensure the Center's sustainability and outreach.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Class D Illinois driver's license or an equivalent license from the employee's state of residence.
  • Associates degree and 1-3 years of experience in resource development and marketing or any equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Experience with sponsorships and partnership development is preferred.
  • Knowledge of fundraising and development strategies, corporate and major donor communities, grant research methods and applications, marketing and promotions, and event planning and administration.
  • Knowledge of development principles and practices such as gift giving/tracking, direct mail programs, donor relations, and database management.
  • Ability to apply knowledge in working with diverse staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive and engaging relationships in the community.
  • Ability to effectively develop presentation information.
  • Excellent communications skills both verbal and written.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, etc.) and the use of e-mail systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative support for fundraising activities, grants development and administration, and program communications.
  • Administers the Fund Raising (FR) database, maintaining and updating the fundraising mailing list, generating reports, and keeping detailed notes on interactions with potential donors.
  • Performs donor stewardship activities, including fielding phone calls and conducting tours of the MLK facilities.
  • Responsible for processing and acknowledging gifts, reconciling gift giving with internal MLK financial resources.
  • Prepares or participates in writing federal, state, and institutional reports.
  • Assists in maintaining the MLK's website sections pertaining to grants and fundraising.
  • Takes photography and videos of the MLK Center to support fundraising activities.
  • Responsible for fundraising direct mail activities, including fundraising letters, impact reports, and holiday cards.
  • Creates impact stories for social media and other media forms.
  • Maintains all aspects of relationship/contact management for key donors, including database management and recognition materials.
  • Maintains communication programs, including the Text-to-Give initiative and engagement with Alumni King Center Kids.
  • Assists with securing material donations, in-kind contributions, product donations, and trade exchanges needed to provide services.
  • Develops community relationships and initiates cold-calls to build a sponsorship base.
  • Assists with the creation and publication of all marketing materials in line with the MLK's marketing plan.
  • Cultivates volunteers for MLK Center activities and events, including identifying volunteering opportunities and conducting volunteer training/orientation.
