About The Position

The Resource Biologist position at the Cleghorn Springs State Fish Hatchery in Rapid City, South Dakota, is a full-time role within the Department of Game, Fish and Parks. Requirements

• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Ability to respond to hatchery alarm calls within 20 minutes at any hour when scheduled.
• Physical ability to repeatedly lift 40lb nets of fish to shoulder height, lift 50lb feed bags to shoulder height, and lift 60lb oxygen bottles onto stocking trucks.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in aquaculture or fisheries management.
• Knowledge of variable frequency drive pumping and recirculating aquaculture systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist hatchery management with intensive fish production and stocking for recreational fish management.
• Conduct fish culture activities including spawning, egg incubation, and feeding.
• Prepare feed projections and charts, and monitor oxygen and water quality levels.
• Perform therapeutic chemical treatments and complete fish inventories.
• Maintain hatchery production and stocking records.
• Collect water samples and submit information for discharge permit compliance.
• Collect data on aquaculture and fisheries experiments and statistically analyze the data.
• Write manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and prepare presentations for scientific conferences.
• Respond to hatchery alarm calls and remedy issues to prevent loss of fish.
• Participate in daily fish culture and stocking activities, pay vouchers, and maintain equipment and grounds.
