About The Position

Job Summary: ResNet is an office of Residence Life. ResNet’s main purpose is to support Residence Life students and staff with technology needs. ResNet plays an important role in supporting the offices of Residence Life, along with basic support to the Campus Life group. The following duties and responsibilities can be changed during the year at any time. 1. Support all students who live in the Residence Halls with computer and network issues, to the best of our abilities. 2. Provide any technical or software support of computer systems. Preferred, but not necessary, to have experience with hardware installations, maintenance, and repair, along with software installs and troubleshooting of software. 3. Assist Residence Life staff with any office software or technical need. 4. Act as a resource for students and staff who may have technology questions. 5. Maintain a positive working environment by performing office tasks and assigned duties. 6. Provide limited support for Campus Life Group and the offices that are members of this group. 7. You will need to be able to multitask by either working on multiple computers at once, and/or multiple projects at once. 8. Knowledge with hand tools and other power tools for networking and other various projects preferred but not required, and must be able to lift 50 pounds without issue. 9. Must be able to work as a team member and by yourself. 10. Possible minimal Campus IT Helpdesk assistance and other IT technical support (assigned by ResNet Coordinator). TRAINING Students will be trained on the job with the supervisor and other student workers. Successful applicants are required to do 5-6hrs/week of job shadowing with current technicians during the initial week or two of work (arranged individually based on schedule). Regular hours will commence after a couple of weeks of training.

Requirements

  • Strong desire to learn on-the-job IT skills.
  • All student employees must be enrolled at least at half-time status for the current semester they will be working.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds without issue.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred, but not necessary, to have experience with hardware installations, maintenance, and repair, along with software installs and troubleshooting of software.
  • Knowledge with hand tools and other power tools for networking and other various projects preferred but not required.
  • Students who are interested in multi-year employment in ResNet are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Computer software and hardware, basic networking and installations, PC/Mac/Linux knowledge is preferred, but not required.
