Our experienced team offers sustainable design strategies, energy analysis, green building certification consulting, sustainability analysis, and upgrades for existing structures, along with education and training. The Role Thornton Tomasetti is seeking a passionate team player to join our Sustainability and Resilience team as an intern to assist with a variety of Resilience projects, ranging from multi-hazard risk assessments to design consulting services of buildings and infrastructure systems throughout the greater New York City area and beyond. This person will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of staff engineers and architects to provide assistance on a variety of tasks for active resilience-focused projects. This is a full-time internship for Summer 2026.

Requirements

  • Students should be familiar and comfortable with Microsoft Suite programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CAD programs (i.e. AutoCAD).
  • Incoming or current graduate students (Masters) in a resilience-related engineering and/or architectural program, who have previously completed an undergraduate engineering or architectural degree program, are preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with any of the following programs is a plus, but is not required: Bluebeam ArcGIS (and HAZUS) Coastal modeling Revit InDesign SketchUp Mathcad Structural analysis programs
  • Familiarity with relevant certifications (i.e. LEED, WEDG, RELi) is also a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analysis of the latest climate and resilience-related academic studies
  • Analysis of natural and man-made shocks and stresses
  • Climate change impacts analysis
  • On-site survey, investigation, and documentation of building conditions
  • 2D drafting in AutoCAD
  • Analysis and design of architectural or structural systems, with possible assistance on mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or plumbing systems
  • Review of existing project drawings and related documents
  • Code research
  • Drawing preparation and development
  • PowerPoint presentation preparation
  • Report preparation
  • Collaboration and coordination with other TT teams (i.e. Structures, Facades)
  • Assistance in project administration
  • Construction observation
