About The Position

MYSI creates hope for children, young adults, and for individuals with developmental disabilities to achieve full independence and financial success. MYSI provides high quality housing, clinical case management, therapy, educational and employment support, life skills learning, and legal advocacy, empowering them to succeed. Within a therapeutic residential care setting, the Residential Youth Advisor provides case management services for stabilization and family reunification, life skills development, recreational activities, and weekly support groups for boys aged 14 to 17 and a half. Program Overview: As a Resident Youth Advisor, you will be responsible for creating and implementing a safe, energetic, and positive environment for at-risk youth living in a residential program. Candidates will coach, mentor and lead by example as they motivate and actively engage the youth through their day. You will be responsible for creating and implementing a dynamic an engaging program pertaining to life skills and social skills in the home and community, vocational and educational activities, and cultural awareness recreational activities. Candidates should be fun, energetic and motivate clients in making healthy life choices that promote independence and responsibility. Requirements

  • Believe in the mission and values of MYSI and wants to make a positive impact on those who need it most.
  • Must be at least 21year old.
  • High School Diploma or equivalency.
  • Experience working with youth/adults.
  • Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and diverse populations.
  • Computer skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Highly motivated individuals who demonstrate organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.
  • Initiative and the ability to follow through are essential.
  • Technical and analytical skills, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Valid Illinois driver's license and proof of valid auto insurance.
  • Must be able to successfully pass background check.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a positive role model for relationship building and connection.
  • Model behavior that highlights respect and kindness by being an actively listener, responding in earnest, and always demonstrating integrity.
  • Respecting the environment and culture of the residence by understanding that your actions can directly always affect others around you.
  • Demonstrate an ability to identify escalated moments and always choosing to de-escalate those moments.
  • Collaborate with the Program Supervisor to develop engaging life skills and social skills in the home and community.
  • Participate in periodic meetings as required by Leadership.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and guidance through demonstration to participants.
  • Complete daily documentation by the end of shift through clear, concise, and thorough written communication electronically via email, databases and with written documentation.
  • Participate in supervision and team meetings as required by Leadership.
  • Always demonstrate cultural awareness by using language that is rooted in respect for diverse individuals despite perceived socio-economic backgrounds, sexuality, sexual orientation, race, gender, color, creed, religious beliefs and more.
  • Travel may be required in order to perform duties.
  • Must be able to administer CPR, First Aid and CPI. (training provided)
  • Must meet DCFS background and transportation requirements.
  • Must comply with Child Care Act CH 23 part 2215.1 Section 5.1a 6.
  • Other duties as assigned.
