About The Position

The Unit Supervisor 1 is responsible for the overall operations, supervision, and quality of care for one residential foster home and two Extended Foster Care (EFC) homes serving young adults ages 18–22. This role ensures a safe, structured, and trauma-informed environment while overseeing staff performance, service planning, and coordination of care. The Unit Supervisor 1 plays a critical role in supporting youth development, independence, and successful transition outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or in a related area of study and two years of experience working with children; or
  • Two years of college and three years of experience working with children; or
  • Five years of experience working in child welfare without a post-secondary degree required.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities, and follow through on assignments.
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Supervisory experience, including staff oversight and performance management.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts for assigned houses, as needed (24/7 on-call expectation).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience working with at-risk children or youth.
  • Ability to remain calm, exercise sound judgment, and de-escalate stressful situations.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Professional demeanor and cultural sensitivity when working with children, families, staff, and external partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of supervisory experience is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of the principles of Trauma Informed Care is preferred.
  • Preferred case management experience.
  • General knowledge of child welfare systems, residential care, or non-profit environments, preferred.
  • Experience using SharePoint or similar document management systems, preferred.
  • Training or experience in de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention preferred.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care principles, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of one residential home and two EFC homes
  • Ensure homes operate in compliance with licensing standards, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain safe, clean, and trauma-informed living environments
  • Assist with maintaining appropriate staffing ratios, including coverage support when needed
  • Participate in on-call rotation, including intake coordination
  • Coordinate and confirm new intakes in collaboration with leadership
  • Complete initial and ongoing assessments for youth and young adults
  • Develop and implement individualized Service Plans
  • Monitor progress and adjust plans based on needs and outcomes
  • Maintain accurate and organized case files in required format
  • Ensure all documentation is completed timely (weekly/monthly)
  • Prepare reports for leadership, lead agencies, and stakeholders
  • Ensure continuity of care through thorough documentation
  • Train, coach, and mentor Direct Care staff
  • Conduct regular supervision, feedback, and performance evaluations
  • Address employee performance concerns through coaching and corrective action
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and team-oriented culture
  • Support positive interactions between staff and youth
  • Promote life skills development, especially for EFC young adults (independence, employment, education)
  • Encourage a structured and supportive environment that fosters growth
  • Coordinate with lead agencies, service providers, legal guardians, and community partners
  • Attend and facilitate staffing meetings and case reviews
  • Ensure timely scheduling of assessments, evaluations, and services
  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory, licensing, and organizational standards
  • Maintain awareness of safety protocols and incident reporting procedures
  • Monitor and address risks within the homes
  • Other duties assigned.
