About The Position

The Residential Underwriter prepares credit analyses and underwrites Residential Mortgage loans, as outlined below.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A) from qualified college or university or seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
  • Excellent ability to communicate in English, verbally and in writing; Portuguese and Spanish highly recommended, and in some departments required
  • Excellent proficiency in various computer software and banking applications
  • In depth knowledge of all bank policies, procedures and compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial analyses
  • Must be able to handle large volumes of work, to prioritize and work under time constaints
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to ensure confidentiality, security and safekeeping of bank and customer information
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Displays original thinking and creativity; self-starter; generates suggestions for improving work.
  • Treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position.
  • Is consistently at work and on time; Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent

Responsibilities

  • Review Tax Returns and other financial documents in order to pre-screen the viability of the credit requests
  • Prepare credit underwriting reports which include the following: identify and mitigate risk, identify sources of repayment, sensitivity analysis
  • Pull credit reports, OFAC and background checks to evaluate and examine credit references for consistency with information provided
  • Analyzes borrower’s income and/or business operations, financial condition to determine borrower’s ability to repay loan
  • Requests specific information and discusses or resolves issues pertaining to borrower’s financial condition and credit risk
  • Confers with Operations Manager in order to resolve problems with application or missing information
  • Performs credit underwriting, assess credit risk, complies with the Bank’s Credit Policy and issues recommendations about credit proposals to be reviewed by the Operations Manager
  • Participates in special projects related to the bank’s Residential loan portfolio
  • Full knowledge and understanding of bank policies, procedures, regulatory and compliance requirements, including but not limited to BSA/AML, CDD, EDD, and others as defined by the Compliance Division and Information Security Division
  • Attend and/or complete all required training as assigned
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and policies
  • Assist colleagues with projects or tasks when needed
  • Communicate effectively with other Departments
  • Perform other related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position
