About The Position

The Residential Treatment Specialist is responsible for providing safe and nurturing environment, for children and youth between the ages of 11-17. This position will provide one-on-one as well as group support for all youth in addition to a daily schedule of activities. New Shift Premium - $1.50 per hour + hourly wage Our Ideal Canidate Skilled in Trauma Informed Care, Crisis Intervention & Relationship-based support Ability to stay calm and make sound decisions in a high-stress or crisis situations. Strong communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced environment. Prior experience in residential treatment, inpatient, day treatment or shelter care highly preferred.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and (3) years of supporting youth with emotional, behavioral or mental health needs. experience working with children or youth in a residential environment (RTS I); or
  • Bachelor's degree and (2) years of supporting youth with emotional, behavioral or mental health needs. Experience working with children or youth in a residential environment working with children or youth in a residential environment (RTS I I)
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated emotional intelligence with an ability to balance an empathy forward response with clients and throughout the organization.
  • Communication: Expresses thoughts clearly, concisely, and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Decision Quality: Possess a high degree of initiative, tact, and good judgment.
  • Functional/Technical Skills: Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment. Including e-mails, electronic documentation and navigation of MS Windows or similar applications.
  • Adaptability: Adapts quickly to change and easily considers new approaches.
  • Independence: Takes responsibility for own time and effectiveness. Alert to opportunities to contribute appropriately without being told.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Driver's License with less than 4 points.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome children entering the facility upon entry and admission
  • Provides care, support, attention, and a positive, therapeutic atmosphere to all children in the department to which assigned.
  • Maintain consistent, firm, and fair relationships with all children
  • Serves as an appropriate, positive role-model
  • Provides physical and emotional security for the children through intervention, correction, and re-direction of negative behavior when:
  • Behavior is damaging to self;
  • Behavior is damaging to others
  • Behavior may result in damage to property
  • Assists with managing the physical needs of the children including health, hygiene, and physical comfort (food/clothing/shelter)
  • Always maintains an active interest in and an awareness of the whereabouts and activities of each assigned child while on duty
  • Assists with maintaining an approach/program that follows the individual care plan.
  • Assists with maintaining agency philosophy, policies
  • Serves as an integral member of the treatment team
  • Provides formal and informal reports on behavior, attitude, and general disposition of assigned children, including:
  • Incident Reports
  • Department logs
  • Behavior Rating Scales
  • Primary sheets
  • Attends conferences and meetings
  • Participates in the planning, supervision, and provision of therapeutic and recreational activities
  • Transports children as necessary including, but not limited to medical appointments, activities, school
  • Assists with maintaining current inventory and/or awareness of all supplies, equipment, and furnishings
  • Reports repairs as necessary
  • Assists with household duties
  • Attend training to meet licensing requirements
  • Understand that the agency reserves the right to mandate overtime as needed to ensure the safety, supervision, and care of the residents in treatment.
