About The Position

The Mayo Clinic John E Herman Home and Treatment Center is a residential
treatment program for adults with serious persistent mental illness (SPMI).
The program is organized around functional and vocational recovery. Treatments
include group and individual therapy, medication management based on cognitive
and behavioral principles, medication management, vocational program, and
milieu-based activities to help residents engage in a productive and
value-driven life.

The Psychiatric Technician is an integral member of the psychiatric residential,
hospital-based psych emergency services team and participates in both direct and
indirect patient care for adults and children. At the direction of a registered
nurse the Psychiatric Technician promotes involvement in the treatment program.
Psychiatric Technicians assist residents in various social, clinical,
nutritional, and observational activities to ensure optimal patient outcomes and
a safe patient milieu. The Psychiatric Technician role plays a crucial role in
ongoing safety observation, assessment of the milieu and identification of
escalation of concerning behaviors. The Psychiatric Technician plays a key role
in leading social activities, games and crafts that promote patients to engage
in milieu and practice therapy concepts they are learning within individualized
care plans.
