Shalom HousePortland, ME

About The Position

In this dynamic and deeply rewarding role, you’ll be a key part of a team that supports adults living with severe and persistent mental illness. Your care will help them maintain independence, stay safe, and feel truly supported. Whether you're assisting with daily living tasks, providing emotional support, or stepping into a more acute care role when needed, your presence will matter—every single day. As a float team member, your flexibility is vital. You’ll mostly serve as a Residential Support Worker, but when a resident needs extra help after surgery or illness, you’ll step into the Personal Support Services (PSS) role to provide hands-on, compassionate care.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma required. A degree in mental health or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification: MHRT-I or provisional eligibility is required. PSS or CNA certification is also required.
  • Experience: At least 1–2 years working in adult mental health.
  • Skills: Compassionate communication, clear boundaries, solid organization, and a calm, supportive presence.
  • Physical Ability: You should be comfortable assisting residents physically when needed and participating in daily activities, including walking, standing, and occasional lifting (client falls require two RSW IIs to assist).
  • Flexibility: While you’ll have a set schedule, occasional coverage may be needed to support your team and residents.

  • Collaborating as a Team: You’ll work side-by-side with a team of skilled, kindhearted professionals, as well as family members and community services, to create personalized care plans and ensure residents receive consistent, quality support.
  • Documenting with Care: Good documentation helps us understand each resident’s progress. You’ll keep accurate records of treatment plans, medications, and overall wellbeing, helping the team deliver the best care possible.
