About The Position

North Suffolk Community Services Inc. is seeking Direct Support Professionals and Residential Support Specialists to provide high-quality direct care services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as individuals with various mental health diagnoses. The role involves working in residential settings to support residents in achieving their full potential through guidance, treatment planning, and daily living assistance. Both entry-level and experienced candidates are encouraged to apply for full-time and part-time positions across multiple locations.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
• Zero to six years of related experience providing child care, elder care, or direct support to developmentally disabled persons.
• Experience supporting individuals in a mental health, special education, or other human services setting.
• Experience working with a population that has severe and persistent mental illness and/or substance use disorder.
• Valid Driver's license required.
• Must be or able to become MAP certified.
• Must be or able to become CPR/First Aid certified within five months of hire.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in addiction counseling.
• Management experience.

Responsibilities

• Offer guidance for residents during skills building.
• Develop and implement individual treatment plans for residents.
• Assist with daily living activities, including meal preparation, money management, doctor's appointments, and personal hygiene.
• Engage residents to improve their health and wellness, achieve symptom stabilization, and develop skills impacted by mental illness.
• Ensure appropriate staff-to-client ratio at all times.
• Develop and promote supportive relationships with residents.
• Provide side-by-side support and coaching to help residents socialize and become more involved in their community.
