About The Position

Provide supervision and management of residential site(s) including directing employees in the development and maintenance of a comfortable, clean and appropriate home environment. Promote and demonstrate the values, vision and mission of The Arc and its residential program ensuring the respect, dignity, safety and well-being of residents at all times.

Requirements

  • Possession of high school diploma.
  • Three (3) years of experience working with developmentally disabled or in a related field working with children, adolescents or adults. College coursework in related field may substitute for experience (30 credit hours is equivalent to one year of experience).
  • Excellent attendance.
  • 24 hour on-call availability.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize.
  • Ability to work independently and in team setting.
  • Ability to direct and supervise subordinates.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment such as copy machine, facsimile equipment, and computer.
  • Basic computer and word processing skills.
  • Flexibility to work at various work sites.
  • Care properly for equipment and resources.
  • Ability to promote the dignity and respect of those we serve.
  • Maintain positive interactions with clients, parents, guardians, co-workers, supervisors and people in the community.
  • Work involves standing, sitting, walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • Employee may be required to perform physical restraint techniques, First Aid, CPR and/or physically transfer clients.
  • The employee may be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 30 pounds; drive a motor vehicle; bend, squat or kneel.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Responsibilities

  • Follow policies, procedures and rules of the organization.
  • Serve as role model and demonstrate, encourage and offer direction in fairness, consistency, attentiveness, ability to work with others, appropriate dress and appearance, and effective conflict resolution.
  • Treat all clients, parents, guardians, co-workers, supervisors and people in the community with respect and dignity.
  • Maintain confidentiality of those we serve.
  • Interview and select qualified candidates for employment at the residential site.
  • Supervise, direct and evaluate subordinates in the performance of their duties.
  • Ensure timely completion of required in-service & training of residential staff.
  • Ensure residential staff follows each resident’s Implementation Plan as written and trained, including data collection.
  • Ensure applicable residential staff follows protocol for 1:1 supervision of any resident as stated in their Behavior Implementation Plan.
  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate program activities.
  • Ensure safe transportation for residents for all activities.
  • Ensure positive employee relations and timely resolution of issues and problems encountered by staff.
  • Ensure compliance with residential licensure requirements.
  • Ensure the appropriate communication and follow-up of maintenance needs of the home.
  • Ensure the maintenance and security of supplies, equipment, and household food while complying with the assigned budget.
  • Assist in maintaining permanent case files on residents.
  • Communicate to the Assistant Director any pertinent contact from family, school, day program or significant others.
  • Manage and remain accountable for residents’ financial concerns.
  • Familiarize one self with residents’ case histories, educational programs, special health problems and particular limitations, abilities, and interests.
  • Follow all medically authorized instructions and procedures.
  • Follow Association procedures in responding to emergencies and/or safety issues.
  • Promote and participate in open and effective communication and support with the residential team.
  • Attend and prepare for all required meetings such as staff meetings, in-service meetings and monitoring meetings and required staff training.
  • Complete required monthly and/or annual progress notes and summaries of residents’ personal goals.
  • Perform the duties of the Direct Support Professional as needed.
  • Maintain high program standards.
  • Advocate for residents’ rights.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Assistant Director.
