About The Position

The Residential Life Coordinator oversees the administrative operations of CARES Center residential milieu along with on-going training of Residential Care Specialists. The Residential Life Coordinator is responsible for the direct supervision and accountability of Lead Residential Care Specialists and indirect supervision of Residential Care Specialists I. The Residential Life Coordinator serves as a role model in carrying out the CARES Center mission. This role is responsible for demonstrating quality leadership to establish a balanced therapeutic program and correlation of services across all shifts to enhance physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of youth through varied aspects of leadership and training of staff. The Residential Life Coordinator is responsible for assuring continuity of care across shifts weekdays and on weekends by coordinating staff efforts and acting as a conduit of information to Lead Residential Care Specialists. The Residential Life Coordinator will create monthly schedules and work with the Lead RCS’s daily unit assignments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required in a behavioral health field, and at least two (2) years of experience in a residential setting, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of consultation, training, evaluation, or administration acquired from hands - on experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to be covered by the organization's insurance provider.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English, and communicate in a therapeutic and professional manner.
  • Exceptional organizational skills required.
  • The ability to build and foster strong relationships to effectively meet each client's therapeutic goals is required

Nice To Haves

  • Previous training and team development experience preferred but not required.
  • General knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care and de-escalation techniques preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administer milieu within the general policies, procedures, and guidelines of Canopy Children's Solutions; provide overall leadership, supervision and coordination to develop and maintain effective team delivery of services to youth.
  • Establish and maintain an environment that encourages teamwork, interdependence, ethical behavior and is an atmosphere of enthusiasm and commitment.
  • Ensure compliance with Medicaid, Department of Human Services, and Department of Health regulatory requirements.
  • Provide direct supervision and coaching to Lead Residential Care Specialists.
  • Monitor interactions with youth and others to assure that such is appropriate and therapeutic at all times.
  • Conduct and document regular supervision meetings with assigned staff.
  • Coordinate appropriate scheduling and staff for the milieu.
  • Work with Lead Residential Care Specialists to allocate resources to ensure provision of treatment 24 hours, 7 days a week while limiting excessive overtime usage.
  • Continually monitor performance of assigned personnel and review performance with individuals according to Canopy Children's Solutions policy and procedure.
  • Make recommendations for disciplinary action and termination of staff within area of responsibility.
  • Interview, employ, and assist with training new employees assigned to milieu and ongoing training of current staff.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings for Lead Residential Care Specialists and support the conduction of monthly staff meetings for RCS I’s led by Lead RCS’s.
  • Work collaboratively with other organization staff to ensure a well-planned and cooperative total team approach to programs and services.
  • Create and maintain a clean and family style environment.
  • Maintains flexibility to adjust work schedule according to milieu and programmatic needs, including but not limited to working every other weekend.
  • Take Administrative On-Call as scheduled.
  • Oversee treatment and service delivery of all admissions / departures for milieu.
  • Communicate necessary information to staff in a timely manner (i.e. Behavioral Health Advance Directive, Preliminary Action Plan, reason for admission, etc.).
  • Closely work with the therapists to achieve and working knowledge of the acuity levels and treatment goals of each client.
  • Role model and train Lead Residential Care Specialists and RCS I on specific interventions as needed.
  • Participate in Child and Family Team meetings and consult with clinical and medical teams to ensure clients’ needs are being met and to follow through with therapeutic recommendations.
  • Report critical issues to all disciplines of treatment team and administration immediately.
  • Lead, with therapist and case manager, clinical community meetings when scheduled for youth within milieu.
  • Lead staff debriefings when present at the end of a shift. For times when not present, coach Lead RCS to lead staff debriefings.
  • Use a Trauma Informed Care (e.g. Risking Connection and Life Space Crisis Intervention) approach and expect this from staff as well.
  • Teach clients, when and where appropriate, activities of daily living, social skills, conflict resolution, and independent living skills.
  • Assure the safety of each client daily, maintaining appropriate staff-to-client ratios and providing appropriate supervision.
  • Assure appropriate implementation of designated therapeutic intervention model, such as AIM principles.
  • Document a progress note regarding client behavior and progress toward treatment goals in each client’s chart at the end of each shift.
  • Monitor and ensure staff are following through with documentation on designated therapeutic intervention model and Program forms in objective and professional language as required. This also includes ensuring staff are conducting program meetings (a.k.a. community meetings) daily and completing sign-in sheet as required by Medicaid.
  • Actively participate in all scheduled activities daily when available.
  • Act as a positive role model and in a therapeutic manner in each interaction with clients.
  • Observe clients so as to prevent and pro-actively de-escalate out of control behavior daily.
  • Provide transportation for clients, as needed, in an organization vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Respond appropriately to clients’ out of control behavior utilizing safe physical intervention in accordance to MAB skills when necessary.
  • Assure the safety of the facility and clients by reporting environment of care concerns/problems to Program Director and Maintenance Tech.
  • Participate in scheduled training opportunities to meet and maintain the specific staff training requirements of licensing and accrediting agencies.
  • Cross training with Residential Training Coordinator required to assist in the event that he/she is unable to perform his/her duties as needed.
  • Follow chain of command and be an effective team member.
  • Support other members of the management team and their work.
  • Approve timesheets on a biweekly basis for all assigned staff.
  • Perform spots checks on a monthly basis across all shifts to assess Lead Residential Care Specialists and RCS I and performance.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
