About The Position

The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) at Dillard University is responsible for fostering a supportive community environment within the residential complex that promotes academic achievement and student growth. This full-time, live-on position involves supervising Resident Assistants and Community Assistants, providing crisis response, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance student learning and development through effective programming and policy enforcement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Supervisory experience in residence life or housing.
  • Extensive experience in residential living.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with a diverse student population.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and philosophy.
  • Proven program planning, organizational, administrative, supervisory, and budget management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and enhance a supportive community environment in the residence area.
  • Supervise student Resident Assistants and Community Assistants.
  • Provide crisis response to individual students.
  • Collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and parents.
  • Manage and oversee the main desk operation.
  • Maintain proper student informational records essential to the assignment of residents and operation of the hall and staff.
  • Assist in administering room assignments, changes, and selection.
  • Plan and direct programs for new students to assist in their integration into campus life.
  • Conduct group conferences to discuss programs and policies related to residential living.
  • Investigate reports of misconduct and attempt to resolve conflicts.
  • Supervise and evaluate the atmosphere in the residence hall on an ongoing basis.
  • Coordinate the general administration and management of the residence hall.
  • Conduct regular meetings with Resident Assistants and assist in their training.
  • Develop and implement student development programming in the residence hall.
  • Encourage students to maintain an atmosphere conducive to academic excellence.
